Regular maintenance keeps your bike running smoothly

Landry's is always here to help keep your bike rolling, but we want you to be able to take care of your bike too — and keep your bike maintained and riding smoothly in-between your services here at Landry's. Below you will find some of the easy tasks you can perform at home to ensure you're getting the most out of your bike. If you have questions or would like a Landry's professional to take a look, stop by the shop or give us a call. We are here and ready to help make sure your bike keeps you rolling!

A clean bike is a happy bike

One of the easiest ways to make your bike last longer and ride better is to keep it clean. This task doesn't need to take up a whole afternoon, but with a quick wash you can keep your bike looking a riding fresh. The key here to wash the bike once a month with regular riding or anytime the bike gets muddy or rained on. Sweat, water, mud, and gunk are the things we want off of the bike.

Keep your bike from sounding like a nest of baby birds

We have all been there before. Out for a ride and the incessant squeaking for of your chain just keeps going and going. The good news is your bike is trying to tell you something! It needs lubricant on the chain. Even better is that we can prevent this experience from even happening. Landry's recommends that you lubricate your bike every 3–5 rides depending on conditions, or every time the bike gets wet or washed. Not every chain lube is created equal, nor do you want to the same stuff that goes on your lawn equipment — so be sure to check out our recommended lubes below or stop by the store and we would be happy to recommend one for your bike.

Don't wait, inflate

Did you know it is normal for bicycle tires to lose air just by sitting? Yes, it is! In fact, depending on your bicycle tires, some can lose up to 10% of air pressure every day. This explains why if you let your bicycle sit over the winter your tires might be flat. It is also important to keep in mind the correct tire pressure helps your bike ride safely, comfortably, and most of all helps reduce the chance of flats. At Landry's we recommend checking your tire pressure before every ride.

Give your bike a pre-ride check

So, you have made it this far and you now have a clean and lubricated bike, you're done right? Well, not quite. Before you hop on the bike, it is important to perform a quick pre-ride check. This is the opportunity to check your bicycle to be sure that nothing creeps up while you're out on your ride. This can be done quick and easily before a ride to ensure you have an awesome trouble-free ride on your bike.

Now you're ready to go!

You have now taken care of your bike and all that is left to do is ride your bike. We wish you many happy miles — and big smiles. If have had any questions with this guide, please give us a call or stop by the shop and we will be happy to review this information and recommend the right products to help you keep your bike in tip-top shape.

And if you're looking for some company along the way, come join us for a ride sometime!
