Get from point A to point B faster on Trek's 8.6 DS. The DS's Gold aluminum frame with IsoZone monostay and the SunTour suspension fork ensure a smooth ride and nimble handling over even the most potholed roads and bumpiest paths. With large 700c wheels wrapped in multi-surface Bontrager tires, the DS rolls quickly and efficiently in the city and through the park. This do-it-all ride also boasts a 30-speed Shimano SLX/XT drivetrain while the Bontrager saddle and bars ensure complete comfort no matter how long you ride. Plus, you'll always cruise with confidence knowing that powerful Shimano hydraulic disc brakes are at the ready. Commute on it, ride it on the road, ride it on bike paths; no matter where you ride, you'll have fun!

Good for reliable day to day commuting The addition speed gained by switching from a mounting bike is a bonus, though the thinner tyres make the ride a little bumpy

      Comments:

It seem strange to write a review for an item that is so personal. My comfort and experience will be different from anyone else's. Having said that, I was having quite a bit of discomfort in my shoulders and hands. After working with dealer, they put a higher neck that brought the handle bar up. This greatly improved the issue. The pedals feel like my feet will come off, the saddle is not comfortable (I will replace). Cable was shredded. Dealer opened new box to replace and found it also shredded straight out of box, indicating quality control issue. I really do love the brakes and components. Probably more of a bike than I need. Mostly recreational, weekend rides in neighborhood, camping, etc. Frame shape makes it difficult to have drink and lock attached at same time. Beautiful finish and overall quality.

      Comments:

I moved from very bike friendly San Diego to small town in frontier Arizona. The roads out here ate my road bike alive. I was thinking I wasn't going to be able to ride anymore. Thank God I discoverd the DS. I didn't want to go back to mountain bike and wanted something tougher than hybrid. The DS answered the call. It is just a blast to ride. Handles like a dream and can take whatever the Southeast Arizona wilderness dishes out.

      Comments:

I'm a road cyclist who was looking for a decent quality bike to ride during the "off season" when the paved roads are covered with fall leaves, winter crud and potholes - and for "in season" rides on surfaces that the 700 x 25 tires of my carbon frame road bike just don't cut. The Trek DS 8.6 fits that bill perfectly ... its 700 x 38 tires are just right for the surfaces I ride, the front fork with remote lockout give me an instant choice - and the hydraulic disc brakes provide great stopping and control. The component group is consistent with good level of quality throughout. It's everything that I was looking for - without the overkill that a full blown mountain bike would be for my needs. Plus, it's at a price point that didn't break the bank. My only wish would have been to have had another color choice ... the "pseudo chrome" look of silver paint is a little gaudy for my tastes.

      Comments:

Great quality components for the money. Versatile bike without a lot of compromise unless you want to do serious off road. My only complaint has been the isozone bushings breaking twice in a year and warranty replacements taking nearly 3 weeks to arrive. Unable to buy just the bushings to keep as spares. Must spend $53 for isozone kit. Frustrating, but love the bike so much otherwise that I am putting up with it for now. Buy the new version without isozone if you can.

I needed something that had a wider gear range than what i had and this bike takes me up 45 degree hills sitting down. Not bad for a 62 year old out of shape guy who's just getting back into cycling. Anywhere i go from my house i have to go uphill and occasionally have to run into gutters to avoid nasty drivers and i feel quite a bit more secure on this bike than i ever did before. Compairing this to my bikes as a youg man (full Campy road bikes) the quality price point is remarkable. I love everthing about this bike. It is evident that a lot of thought went into this bike and i'm going to shut up now and go ride it!

I love this product because it fits perfectly, very durable, has great stability, and is very fast. I've ridden about 100 miles with it and the Ergonomic grips are great. I had no hand pains at all. It is road bike like fast, and trail bike like capable.

I currently own a road bike up north ( trek domane) and had a mountain bike down south... I just bought this new version 8.6 dual sport and really like this bike .... I can use it as a road bike, and can also use it on trails.. The switch to engage the shock on the handlebar is a great feature and a good selling point for me .. I elected to buy the newer version without the isospeed, which I believe will make the bike quicker I strongly recommend this bike for people who like multiple use bikes .. I usually prefer higher end models for better components and comfort The new cool colors being offered in the DS series at very nice !

Its light and the brakes are good. Very unhappy that Tyres got lots of puntures, so needed to change. Saddle was very hard and not easy on the bum. Lower Bracket went after five months and I don't cycle lots of miles.
