Bicycling Skills Classes

Basic Bicycling Skills

This class is geared toward adults and teens aged 14 and older who have at least a modest level of bike-riding experience.

Length:  3½ hours.

Format:  On-bike training, mostly outdoors. One session.

Cost:  $50. Pre-registration and payment required.

Description:  This class is geared to adults or mature teens who are looking to get back into bicycling, improve basic cycling skills, and/or participate in an upcoming benefit ride. This course is also appropriate for beginning mountain-bikers. Through on-bike practice exercises, you will learn how to:

  • Adjust your bike and helmet to fit you properly.
  • Start and stop properly.
  • Operate your bike more smoothly, including shifting gears.
  • Steer out of trouble.
  • Ride safely and legally in roadway traffic.
  • Participate in group-ride events.
  • Make connections with the local bicycling community.
  • And more!

What to bring and wear:  Bring your bike (in good working condition), your helmet (required), water bottle, closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops), and whatever else you need to be comfortable. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions that day.

Instructor:  Galen Mook is an experienced League Cycling Instructor who has taught bicycling skills to students aged 5 to 65+. Galen works as Landry's marketing & advocacy associate, and he's an all-season bike commuter.

Questions:  E-mail Galen Mook, Landry's marketing & advocacy associate.
