LANDRY'S THANK-YOU NOTE TO GREG LEMOND:

Dear Greg,

I am writing to thank you so much for coming to visit with us at Landry's Bicycles.  The evening was truly memorable.  Since that night, on group bike rides and in the store, I have spoken with dozens of our customers who loved the event.  Your openness and honesty are refreshing, and your sheer generosity of spirit is remarkable — from your freewheeling stories to your one-on-one conversations late into the evening as guests greeted you and got their posters signed.  Thank you also for the conversation afterwards at dinner.

Greg, we were already fans of yours and of what you represent in your values and spirit, but to move a little closer to your story is something we will always remember.  All of us at Landry’s and our customers who attended felt truly blessed by a special evening.  Thank you.

Warmly yours,

Tom Henry, Landry's general manager

ABOUT GREG LEMOND
:

Greg LeMond’s career is one of the most incredible stories in sports and cycling history.  Twenty years ago in 1986, Greg became the first American to win the largest annual sporting event in the world, the Tour de France.  Greg became a professional cyclist in 1981.  He took second in the World Cycling Championships the following year.  In 1984, he finished third in the Tour de France and won the white jersey as the Tour’s best young rider.  He finished second in the Tour de France in 1985, 1:42 behind his team captain Bernard Hinault.  And in 1986, Greg won the Tour with teammate Hinault in second place.

Greg missed the Tour in 1987 and 1988 while recovering from a near-fatal shotgun wound.  Greg’s brother-in-law accidentally discharged the gun, and it struck him in the chest two months before the Tour in 1987.  Shotgun pellets lodged in his back, legs, small intestine, liver, diaphragm, and heart lining.  While waiting to be rescued, LeMond lost three quarters of his blood supply and his right lung collapsed.  Some of the pellets remain lodged in his body.
After two years of recovery and intensive training, Greg went on to win  the Tour de France again in 1989 and 1990.  He also won the World Cycling Championships in 1989.  Greg won the Tour du Pont in 1992 before retiring from cycling in 1994.  He is a member of the Cycling Hall of Fame.

Greg’s business experience includes founding a successful bicycle company, LeMond Racing Cycles, which is now owned by Trek Bicycles.  (LeMond Racing bikes are available at Landry’s.)  Greg also played an integral part in the success of Oakley sunglasses, Giro helmets, and LeMond Fitness Bikes.  He is the Honorary Chairperson for the American Diabetes Association’s premier cycling event, the Tour de Cure.  We were honored to host Greg LeMond at Landry’s Bicycles.
