MassBike — Bicycling Skills Classes

MassBike offers a series of Bicycling Skills classes to help bicyclists learn to ride more safely and effectively.  MassBike's classes are geared toward adults 16 and over who have at least a modest level of experience on a bicycle.  See MassBike's website for upcoming class dates, times, locations, and registration details.

Bicycling Street Smarts:  Riding Confidently, Legally, and Safely
This compact booklet describes the nuts and bolts of safe and legal on-road cycling including lane-positioning, navigating intersections, control of brakes and steering, emergency maneuvers, and dealing with difficult situations.  The booklet is available for sale in Landry's stores, and the contents are also available online.  Click for more information on Bicycling Street Smarts.

Smart Cycling:  Book and DVD program from League of American Bicyclists
This book and DVD package is perfect for new and returning cyclists who ride for fun, fitness, and transportation. The program covers how to choose the right bike and gear, essential cycling skills, rules of the road, maintenance and quick repairs, safety strategies, bike-commuting, and group riding.  You can order this book and DVD package directly from the League of American Bicyclists.

Bicycle Riding School (located near Davis Square in Somerville) specializes in teaching adults to ride bicycles, many of whom never learned as children.  The program focuses on basic bike-handling skills — not on traffic skills.
